Dustin Martin
Integral in win
FRichmond Tigers
May 15, 2021
Martin scored four goals and two behinds to go with 28 disposals (16 kicks, 12 handballs) from Saturday's 87-83 win over GWS.
ANALYSIS
Martin went six rounds between 100-point fantasy scores and his production was essential to coming away with a high win. With the Tigers still struggling to find a regular groove, it's worth being careful with Martin, especially while his club remains short of some of its best players due to injury.
Liam Baker
Leads way in win
DRichmond Tigers
May 15, 2021
Baker scored one behind to go with 33 disposals (19 kicks, 14 handballs) and made six tackles during Saturday's 87-83 win over GWS.
ANALYSIS
Baker led his team in fantasy points during a narrow victory that came down to the final moments. With Shai Bolton (wrist) likely out for multiple weeks, Baker may be the man to fill the gap and improve on his average value to this point in the season.
Jesse Hogan
Scores four in loss
FGreater Western Sydney Giants
May 15, 2021
Hogan scored four goals and one behind to go with 16 disposals (12 kicks, four handballs) and nine marks made during Saturday's 87-83 loss to Richmond.
ANALYSIS
Hogan is a real spark plug for the Giants and his goal in the second quarter nearly sparked a furious comeback against an experienced Tigers club. Despite the loss, Hogan is providing plenty of assurances that his production is here to stay, especially in a team that knows how to maintain possession even if they struggle to win each week.
Matt Flynn
Big effort in loss
RGreater Western Sydney Giants
May 15, 2021
Flynn scored one behind to go with 12 disposals (seven kicks, five handballs), nine tackles made and 30 hitouts recorded during Saturday's 87-83 loss to Richmond.
ANALYSIS
Flynn and Toby Nankervis went wire-to-wire in their ruck battle and Flynn led in hitouts by a single effort though the final score was eventually lost. Through five appearances, Flynn has now logged a respectable 13 disposals and 25.6 hitouts, so look out for his name in the right situation as an alternate to the traditional stars in his position.
Jacob Hopper
Productive in loss
MGreater Western Sydney Giants
May 15, 2021
Hopper scored one goal to go with 35 disposals (16 kicks, 19 handballs) and made seven tackles during Saturday's 87-83 loss to Richmond.
ANALYSIS
Hopper led his team in fantasy production as he topped 30 disposals for the third time this season. By also setting a new season-high in tackles and taking five marks as well, Hopper offers another midfield option to consider from the Giants. He's also topped 107 fantasy points in two of the last three rounds after Round 9.
Harry Perryman
Hurts hamstring in loss
MGreater Western Sydney Giants
Hamstring
May 15, 2021
Perryman suffered a hamstring injury during Saturday's Round 9 loss to Richmond, according to AFL.com's match report.
ANALYSIS
Perryman has been productive with averages of 22.7 disposals and 5.3 marks per game this season, so his absence is worth making note of if he's forced to miss substantial time.
Daniel McStay
Scores four in win
FBrisbane Lions
May 15, 2021
McStay scored four goals to go with 14 disposals (nine kicks, five handballs) and made eight marks during Saturday's 124-51 win over Gold Coast.
ANALYSIS
McStay has scored in all five of his appearances this season but finally made his mark on a game with the most majors of any player in this match. Given that he was also able to be active in possession, McStay could be a potentially valuable target with more performances like this one over the coming weeks.
Dayne Zorko
Active in win
MBrisbane Lions
May 15, 2021
Zorko scored one goal and two behinds to go with 34 disposals (23 kicks, 11 handballs) in addition to making nine marks during Saturday's 124-51 win over Gold Coast.
ANALYSIS
Zorko is often less consistent than a true midfielder but his quality was on display in Round 9 as he scored over 100 fantasy points for the fourth time in five weeks and set a new season-high for disposals in a game. The schedule will get a little tougher over the next month for Zorko, so be careful with his matchup before considering him for selection.
Jarryd Lyons
Dominates in win
MBrisbane Lions
May 15, 2021
Lyons logged 37 disposals (13 kicks, 24 handballs) while also making six marks and completing nine tackles during Saturday's 124-51 win over Gold Coast.
ANALYSIS
Lyons scored 142 fantasy points for the second time this season and topped 100 for the sixth time in the last seven rounds. Even without Lachie Neale, Lyons is making a strong case that Brisbane still hold some fantasy stars worth keeping an eye on even if the team can't secure positive results each week.
Ben King
Kicks two goals in loss
FGold Coast Suns
May 15, 2021
King scored two goals and three behinds in addition to making five marks during Saturday's 124-51 loss to Brisbane.
ANALYSIS
King was one of just five players to score goals in an extremely lopsided loss to the Lions in the QClash. If he's able to log a few more touches, King would have more value than he currently projects as a lower-tier option at forward. He's still already scored 25 goals through nine rounds, which is as many as he scored in all of last season.
David Swallow
Logs 29 disposals in loss
MGold Coast Suns
May 15, 2021
Swallow collected 29 disposals (13 kicks, 16 handballs) and made four tackles during Saturday's 124-51 loss to Brisbane.
ANALYSIS
Swallow led his team in fantasy points during what was a drubbing at the hands of their local rivals. Still, for Swallow to put up this many points means that he could be worth the risk as an alternate to other high-priced options from the Suns. Though nine rounds, Swallow has topped 93 fantasy points in all but three occasions and topped 100 four times.
Jack Bowes
Hurts hamstring in loss
DGold Coast Suns
Hamstring
May 15, 2021
Bowes suffered a hamstring injury during Saturday's Round 9 loss to Brisbane, according to the AFL.com match report.
ANALYSIS
Bowes will probably be out for a couple of weeks at the least and would be another major loss to a Suns club depleted by injuries to its best players. In his absence, Charlie Ballard could step up to be the key fantasy option from Gold Coast's defense.
Darcy Gardiner
Hurts shoulder in win
DBrisbane Lions
Shoulder
May 15, 2021
Gardiner suffered a shoulder injury during Saturday's Round 9 win over Gold Coast, according to the AFL.com match report.
ANALYSIS
Gardiner has played just five times this season due to other injury issues and he'll hope that this new problem doesn't knock him out for long. His season-high of 74 fantasy points in a game isn't enough to make him a substantially important loss.
Ryan Lester
Injures hamstring in win
DBrisbane Lions
Hamstring
May 15, 2021
Lester suffered a hamstring injury during Saturday's Round 9 win over Gold Coast, according to the AFL.com match report.
ANALYSIS
Lester is no stranger to hamstring issues and went down in his 150th game for the Lions. Depending on how serious this injury is, Lester could miss as few as two weeks or as much as a month.
Cameron Zurhaar
Scores four in win
FNorth Melbourne Kangaroos
May 15, 2021
Zurhaar scored four goals and two behinds to go with nine disposals recorded during Saturday's 87-80 win over Hawthorn.
ANALYSIS
Zurhaar has scored six majors and four behinds over the last two weeks as his club finally recorded their first win of the season. As he's only topped 15 disposals on one occasion, Zurhaar still needs to get more time with the footy to become properly valuable in fantasy.
Todd Goldstein
Steps up in win
RNorth Melbourne Kangaroos
May 15, 2021
Goldstein scored one goal to go with 19 disposals (nine kick, 10 handballs) while also recording six marks and 28 hitouts during Saturday's 87-80 win over Hawthorn.
ANALYSIS
Goldstein had generally struggled to win his battles this season but finally came out on top during his club's 32-point comeback win. There may be no other player more crucial to the successes of the 'Roos than Goldstein, so it's worth checking to see if he can make 100-point games the norm instead of the exception.
Jy Simpkin
Tops 140 in win
MNorth Melbourne Kangaroos
May 15, 2021
Simpkin logged 38 disposals (22 kicks, 16 handballs) while also making nine marks during Saturday's 87-80 win over Hawthorn.
ANALYSIS
Simpkin and Ben Cunnington collected 38 and 37 disposals respectively as the 'Roos came down from 32 to win for the first time this season. Though Simpkin also scored only 52 points in Round 8, he's scored at least 90 points in three of the last four rounds and could be a valuable pickup from the league's cellar-dwellers.
James Cousins
Scores two goals in loss
MHawthorn Hawks
May 15, 2021
Cousins scored two goals and two behinds to go with 23 disposals (eight kicks, 15 handballs) during Saturday's 87-80 loss to North Melbourne.
ANALYSIS
Cousins has only played four times this season but has scored at least 96 points in two of the last three rounds. That production will make his production steadily increase if he stays consistent, especially as he's logged 20.8 disposals and 4.5 marks per game this season.
Blake Hardwick
Logs 28 disposals in loss
DHawthorn Hawks
May 15, 2021
Hardwick collected 28 disposals (21 kicks, seven handballs) in addition to making seven marks and five tackles during Saturday's 87-80 loss to North Melbourne.
ANALYSIS
Hardwick occasionally puts up huge performances and tied for the team lead in disposals during this narrow loss. There aren't many players from Hawthorn who can seriously make an impact in fantasy each week, but Hardwick could be that guy if his value doesn't rise too much after this performance.
Isaac Heeney
Strong effort in return
FSydney Swans
May 15, 2021
Heeney scored three goals and two behinds to go with 22 disposals (12 kicks, 10 handballs) and made six marks during Saturday's 72-42 win over Collingwood.
ANALYSIS
Heeney missed Round 8 with an ankle issue but came back and scored two first half goals to make himself integral to the success of the Swans. As he didn't get much going in the three rounds before picking up his ankle injury, Heeney now has a good opportunity to increase his production if he can follow up this game with more high-value showings.
Hayden McLean
Exceptional in win
FSydney Swans
May 15, 2021
McLean scored one goal and two behinds to go with 18 disposals (11 kicks, seven handballs) as well as making nine marks and six tackles during Saturday's 72-42 win over Collingwood.
ANALYSIS
McLean hadn't showed tremendous fantasy value this season then set season-highs for marks, tackles and disposals all at once. Given that this was hist first time topped 10 disposals in a game, it's worth being careful if considering McLean until he does more to prove himself.
Callum Mills
Logs 28 disposals in win
MSydney Swans
May 15, 2021
Mills collected 28 disposals (12 kicks, 16 handballs) in addition to making six marks and recording seven tackles during Saturday's 72-42 win over Collingwood.
ANALYSIS
Mills was one of the stars of the day as he topped 100 fantasy points for the fourth time in five weeks. His consistent production with 26.4 disposals, 6.7 marks and 5.3 tackles per game is more than enough to be reliable in fantasy every week, though he's dropped below the 100-point threshold on three occasions in nine weeks.
Chris Mayne
Active in loss
FCollingwood Magpies
May 15, 2021
Mayne logged 24 disposals (11 kicks, 13 handballs) and made seven marks during Saturday's 72-42 loss to Sydney.
ANALYSIS
Mayne has scored at least 97 fantasy points in each of the last two weeks and logged seven marks on each occasion. Much like the star of the day in Will Hoskin-Elliot, collecting over 20 disposals each week could make Mayne an exceptionally useful player on a struggling team.
Will Hoskin-Elliott
Pushes up in loss
FCollingwood Magpies
May 15, 2021
Hoskin-Elliot scored one goal to go with 23 disposals (14 kicks, nine handballs) and made 10 marks during Saturday's 72-42 loss to Sydney.
ANALYSIS
Hoskin-Elliot isn't often the guy to lead his team in fantasy production but that's exactly what happened after a good showing in the first half. With his ability both as a goalscorer and in maintaining possession, Hoskin-Elliot could offer more reliable value than the stars of the Magpies if he's able to log more than 20 disposals each week.
Alex Pearce
Out for Round 9
DFremantle Dockers
Knee
May 15, 2021
Pearce (knee) will miss Round 9 against Essendon.
ANALYSIS
Pearce had the chance to return for the first time since Round 1 but his name didn't appear on the team sheet. He should still be back soon.
