Neale is expected to miss the next 6-8 weeks after undergoing ankle surgery for a syndesmosis injury, according to High Performance Manager Damien Austin.
Neale's absence was already expected after reports came out the day after the Round 6 win over Carlton that he would need surgery. The efforts of Dayne Zorko and Jarryd Lyons will be integral for Brisbane as they manage life without Neale for up to two months.

Needs surgery on ankle
MBrisbane Lions
April 25, 2021
Neale suffered an ankle injury during Saturday's Round 6 win over Carlton and will need to undergo surgery, his club confirmed after the match.
Neale's return date should be clarified over the coming week, and he'll want to put this game behind him as soon as possible after also picking up a fine in a different incident. Now that Neale could be out for a month, Dayne Zorko and Jarryd Lyons will have to carry more of the load in the midfield.
Controversial contact w/offficial
MBrisbane Lions
April 24, 2021
Neale could be cited for making contact with a game official after attempting to alert the latter about a split eyebrow suffered in the second quarter of Saturday's win over Carlton, reports.
Neale had a less-than-ideal showing versus the Blues, with the Brownlow Medalist not only forced to leave the game early in the first quarter after suffering an ankle injury, but too making contact with umpire Matthew Nicholls while attempting to invoke the blood rule in the second. The midfielder went on to produce 24 disposals, seven clearances, four marks and a career-best three goal assists in the Brisbane victory, but now awaits word on any pending sanction stemming from the controversial incident.
Stars in rain

April 17, 2021
Neale scored two goals and collected 38 disposals (19 kicks, 19 handballs) in addition to making seven marks during Saturday's 102-45 win over Essendon.
Neale had been dealing with back issues to start the season but finally put up a performance that matches his talents with a game-high tally of disposals in the middle of a rain storm. If he's shaken off those fitness issues, look no further than Neale for a high-value pick as one of the best players on the Lions and in the league.
Finishes season with two goals
MBrisbane Lions
October 17, 2020
Neale scored two goals in addition to collecting 24 disposals (10 kicks, 14 handballs), making five marks and completing eight clearances during Saturday's 82-42 loss to Brisbane.
Neale finishes his season with a strong showing more akin to his performances at the beginning of the summer. However, it wasn't enough to help his club advance during a bad loss to Geelong in the preliminary final.
Collects 33 disposals in win
MBrisbane Lions
September 9, 2020
Neale collected 33 disposals (15 kicks, 18 handballs) and made six clearances during Wednesday's 88-43 win over Gold Coast.
Neale had a huge game to shut down his club's local rivals, though the matchup may not have been the most equal this season. He's dipped below 24 disposals just once in his last eight games and will need to continue carrying the burden as the injuries mount up for the Lions.
