Expected back for start of season
Achilles
April 29, 2020
Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley recently indicated that Howard is making good progress in his recovery from a torn Achilles' tendon and is expected to be ready for the Sept. 5 season opener versus Missouri State, Joey Helmer of 247Sports.com reports. "It speaks a lot to his character because a lot of guys would be really down with just transferring here and then having an injury happen like he did," Riley said of Howard. "And he's [not]. Rehab is going great, and he's already bringing a lot to our team."
ANALYSIS
Achilles injuries are often devastating for athletes, but the one Howard suffered while working out in January may not have been of the most severe variety. Oklahoma won't get the chance to see how Howard is moving around in practice until the fall, but assuming his rehab continues to go smoothly, he should become a regular member of the Sooners' receiver rotation in 2020. Howard joined Oklahoma as a graduate transfer after nabbing 51 receptions for 677 yards and four touchdowns for UCLA in 2019.

Ethan Padway rounds out our Conference Preview series with his breakdown of the PAC-12. While Khalil Tate and Bryce Love rightfully get plenty of publicity, Washington's Myles Gaskin has proven time and again to be an elite fantasy option as well.
2018 Fantasy Outlook
Howard is in a position to expand his production again in 2018, after hauling in 56 receptions for 594 yards and four scores through 13 games last season. His best performance came in Week 2 against Hawaii when he recorded seven grabs for 110 yards and a score, but it was his only 100-plus yard showing of the year. Howard figures to serve as the No. 1 wideout for the Bruins throughout the upcoming season, as Christian Pabico is the only other receiver with any real collegiate experience. However, UCLA is not only breaking in a new quarterback to begin the post Josh Rosen era, but also a new offense under Chip Kelly. Still, Howard is WR1 until proven otherwise and he will have competent quarterback play whether it's from Devon Modster, Wilton Speight, or Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
