Tears Achilles' tendon in workout
Achilles
February 3, 2020
Howard (wrist) suffered a torn Achilles' tendon during a recent workout, putting his availability for the 2020 season in doubt, Brandon Drumm of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Howard committed in January to join Oklahoma as a graduate transfer from UCLA after taking a redshirt year in 2019 due to a wrist injury. After logging 51 receptions for 677 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games for UCLA during his junior season, Howard looked in line to play a significant role for an Oklahoma receiving corps that's looking to replace CeeDee Lamb, who declared for the 2020 NFL Draft. The Achilles' injury now likely jeopardizes Howard's chances of ever playing a down for Oklahoma, though the wideout could petition the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility in 2021 if he's unable to make it on the field during the upcoming season. Assuming Howard is sidelined for most of 2020, Oklahoma will look to Marshall graduate transfer Obi Obialo, holdovers Trejan Bridges, Jadon Haselwood and Theo Wease and true freshmen Marvin Mims, Trevon West and Brian Darby to provide depth behind Charleston Rambo, who now looks like the clear No. 1 target following Lamb's departure.

Ethan Padway rounds out our Conference Preview series with his breakdown of the PAC-12. While Khalil Tate and Bryce Love rightfully get plenty of publicity, Washington's Myles Gaskin has proven time and again to be an elite fantasy option as well.
2018 Fantasy Outlook
Howard is in a position to expand his production again in 2018, after hauling in 56 receptions for 594 yards and four scores through 13 games last season. His best performance came in Week 2 against Hawaii when he recorded seven grabs for 110 yards and a score, but it was his only 100-plus yard showing of the year. Howard figures to serve as the No. 1 wideout for the Bruins throughout the upcoming season, as Christian Pabico is the only other receiver with any real collegiate experience. However, UCLA is not only breaking in a new quarterback to begin the post Josh Rosen era, but also a new offense under Chip Kelly. Still, Howard is WR1 until proven otherwise and he will have competent quarterback play whether it's from Devon Modster, Wilton Speight, or Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
