Pavel Francouz
29-Year-Old GoalieG
2019 Fantasy Outlook
With battle-tested veteran Semyon Varlamov dispatched to the Islanders in free agency, opportunity knocks for Francouz in the NHL. The lanky netminder -- who spent eight seasons honing his craft between a Czech league and the KHL -- posted a 27-20-1 record, 2.68 GAA and .918 save percentage for AHL Colorado in 2018-19. He stumbled in the Calder Cup playoffs, but not before making an All-Star appearance in the minors. Bound by a one-year, $950,000 contract, Francouz projects to serve as the No. 2 option behind Phillipp Grubauer in Denver this season, though he'll be hard-pressed to register more than 25 starts as an understudy to the emerging Grubauer. Makes 39 saves in win
GColorado Avalanche
November 9, 2019
Francouz stopped 39 of 41 shots in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Blue Jackets.
ANALYSIS
Francouz was shaky at the start, as he went into the first intermission down 2-1. The 29-year-old then stopped all 23 shots he faced in the final two periods while the Avalanche's offense did their part to get him a win. Francouz improved to 4-2-0 with a 2.82 GAA and a .915 save percentage. Expect him to get virtually all of the starts while Philipp Grubauer (lower body) is on the shelf.
