John Makdessi
The Bull
Wins slow-paced striking match
LightweightUFC
March 23, 2019
Makdessi defeated Jesus Pinedo via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27. 29-28) at UFC Fight Night 148 in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Perhaps a late opponent change can be blamed for the slow nature of this fight but it seemed as though Makdessi had the upperhand for most of the contest, as his opponent simply backed up and threw the occasional flurry of strikes. We've seen Makdessi use his quick hands and clever striking to win many times before in the Octagon but he did feel Pinedo's power more than once in the contest, which may have made him hesitant to engage. Makdessi improves to 17-6 in professional MMA as a result of the victory.

LightweightUFC
October 4, 2018
Makdessi will take on Diego Ferreira in a lightweight matchup at UFC 231 on Dec. 8 in Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Makdessi currently finds himself on the outside looking in with respect to the UFC's lightweight rankings, despite picking up back-to-back wins over Abel Trujillo and Ross Pearson. He'll now turn his sights to Ferreira, a 33-year-old Brazilian that is coming off a win as well, but has fought just once in the last two years. Statistically, Makdessi is typically a good fantasy play due to his striking volume of 5.49 significant strikes landed per minute, which he's been able to maintain despite a 15-fight sample size. The Quebec native also sports a strong 87 percent takedown defense. He'll be a bit undersized in this one, however, conceding an inch of height and six inches of reach to Ferreira.
Batters overmatched Ross Pearson Saturday in Calgary
LightweightUFC
July 28, 2018
Makdessi defeated Ross Pearson via unanimous decision (30-26, 29-27, 29-28) at UFC on FOX 30 on Saturday in Calgary.
ANALYSIS
It was a quite a performance for Makdessi in his native Canada. Facing an opponent who can't defend himself on the feet, "The Bull" battered an overmatched Pearson from start to finish. Makdessi ended up with an 182-99 edge in total strikes and Pearson's next-level toughness was the only thing that kept him from earning the stoppage victory. The 33-year-old has quietly put together a nice 3-1 run in his last four fights.
To face Ross Pearson in Calgary
LightweightUFC
April 27, 2018
Makdessi is set to fight Ross Pearson in a lightweight bout at UFC Calgary on July 28.
ANALYSIS
Makdessi is coming off a win back in December over Abel Trujillo via unanimous decision in Winnipeg, but the fighter boasts just three victories since 2015. The UFC veteran, however, still boasts plenty of experience and success in the sport, as "The Bull" holds a 15-6 record entering July's bout.
